Divisions and Weight Classes 

(All Wrestlers Weigh in Singlet at Districts & State)

Weights listed are the upper limits for each class.  You must make the same weight at state as the weight class in which you qualified at Districts.  

Wrestlers are allowed to enter only one age division and weight class.  Wrestlers can move up one grade division or weight class with parent consent.  Grade in school is the primary determinant of division. Age can move a wrestler up a division but not down. 

Participants must be biological males, as stated on participant’s birth certificate.

Biological females may not participate in AAU Kids State and Districts. 

Biological females may participate in AAU Girls State.

Match Times: 

A & B Divisions:  1-1-1           C Division:  1.5-1.5-1.5 

A Division – 3RD & 4TH Grade: 50, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 69, 72, 75, 78, 82, 86, 90, 95, 100, 110, 125, 145, 170(MAX)

 If your 12th birthday is in 2026 you must move up a division.  2nd graders may enter with parent consent. NO 1st graders.  

B Division – 5TH & 6TH Grade: 60, 65, 70, 74, 77, 80, 83, 86, 89, 93, 98, 103, 108, 114, 120, 128, 138, 148, 160, 180, 215(MAX)

If your 14th birthday is in 2026 you must move up a division. 

C Division – 7TH & 8TH Grade: 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 260 (MAX)  If your 16th birthday is in 2026 you are ineligible.  No 9th Graders. 

Brackets & Match Times

Districts:  6 or less wrestlers:  Round Robin.  Above six wrestlers brackets will be 8, 16, or 32 man cross bracket.  Wrestlers will be assigned by random draw   and wrestlers from same club will be separated as much as possible.  We wrestle out to 5th place.  No 2nd place wrestle back. Will wrestle to true 4th.

        Top 4 finishers at each weight qualify for state.  If any of the top 4 do not signup, next in order of finish become eligible.  

State:  Wrestlers are placed in a bracket according to a rotating formula using district finishes.  Wrestle through 8 places.  No 2nd place wrestle back. 

Awards Top 4 medal at Districts.  Top 8 medal at State.  State Champions Earn Customized Gear

Entry Information

Must bring 2026 AAU card to District Tournament.

All AAU cards must be purchased prior to Districts—NOT sold at door.  Purchase online at: www.aausports.org

You must bring a copy of your Birth Certificate to districts to be allowed to wrestle.  AAU card is not proof of age. 

Team you register to wrestle for at Districts is same team you will wrestle for at State.  You cannot change after Districts.

$25.00 entry fee if register in advance at:  www.trackwrestling.com 

$35.00 to enter at door.  NO Mail In Entries 

District Admission:  $8.00 age 6 & up.  Free for kids 5 & under.  

Coaches:  Must Have 2026 Non Athlete AAU Card and will get FREE admission and FREE coaches band at Districts

State

$40.00 Entry Fee for State Qualifiers

Must enter for State at Districts on the day you qualify. State info will be given at districts once you qualify.

Saturday Feb. 28th: A & B Divisions start at 8 AM C Division starts at approximately 3 PM

Sunday March 1st:  All Divisions:  Doors 7:30am, Grand March 8:30 and Wrestling Starts by 9 AM

Guidelines

  • Wrestlers must provide copy of AAU Card and Birth Certificate at Districts. 

  •  No Wrestlers below 2nd grade at Districts

  • No individual petition to change district or wrestle outside your district will granted for any reason.

  • AAU clubs must be on file by districts to be eligible for team awards at state.

  •  You must enter district qualifier for your county of residence unless your school is in another district in which case you may enter district tournament that your school is in.  In this case you must have copy of your report card as proof of your school.

  • You must be an Iowa resident or be enrolled in an Iowa school to be eligible.  Bring proof of enrollment if not an Iowa resident.

  • Siblings from the same household must wrestle in the same district.

  • All AAU club members must register at districts to represent your club at state.  

  • All wrestlers must weigh in wearing a singlet.  If you weigh more or less than the weight class you registered for via TrackWrestling for districts, you can change weight classes at the tournament during weigh ins.  

  • Any violation of age, grade, or residence requirement will result in disqualification for the state tournament.

-Jr. High Athletes May Wrestle Up in High School Division to Qualify for Team Iowa High School Team
-No Double Bracketing
-We reserve the right to combine weight classes that have 3 or less wrestlers.
-At the highest weight-in each division we would create a new bracket if we had a dramatic difference in weight (typically greater than 15% difference in body weight)
 
***It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and coach to determine if a wrestler should safely participate on the mat. You may forfeit or withdraw your wrestler at any time over safety concerns.***
 
REGISTRATION on TRACK WRESTLING: Entry fee is $45 online registration (LISTED ABOVE) NO REFUNDS
-Registrations are limited to Iowa Residents and previous out of district Team Iowa members. Exceptions will be voted upon by committee and only made to support event brackets or to provide an opportunity to further grow Iowa women’s wrestling.

EARLY BIRD WEIGH-IN: $25, 12PM-1PM
EVENT WEIGH-IN: 4-6 pm.
-Make sure any skin conditions are controlled and covered with a doctor’s note.
-Must weigh-in in singlet.
-MUST BRING CURRENT AAU Cards, PROOF OF GRADE, & Birth Certificate to weigh ins or upon request during competition. All AAU cards must be purchased prior to weigh-ins.—NOT sold at door. Purchase online at: www.aausports.org.  AAU card is not proof of age.
 
AWARDS:   TOP EIGHT RECIEVES PLACEMENTS MEDAL. CHAMPION RECIEVES AAU STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WALL CHART AND A CHAMPIONSHIP AWARD!!
 
ADMISSION: Admission purchased only at ALLIANT POWERHOUSE ARENA BOX OFFICE.
SINGLE DAY: $20 adults/$12 student (ages 5-12)/Free for kids 5 &under.
TWO- DAY: $30 adults/$20 student (ages 5-12)/ Free for kids 5 &under.
COACHES PASS (includes 2 Day Admission): $25  Coaches must have an AAU card to be on the mats.
FLOOR PASS (includes 2 Day Admission): $50 (Gets you on the floor but not on the mat to coach.)
*Due to mat layout Division A & B will not require a floor pass on Day 1/ Saturday. Only BANDED COACHES will still be allowed mat side. 
All Top 8 place winners will compete in Arena and a floor pass will be required to access the Arena floor throughout entire event. 
 
No coolers or food containers are allowed in the arena.
 
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

SESSION 1: Doors will open at 7:00 am - Wrestling will begin at 8:00 am
           DIVISIONS A & C
SESSION 2:
           DIVISION B - Wrestling will begin at Noon (Tentatively)
           DIVISION D & E - Wrestling will begin at 1 PM  (Tentatively)
SMALLER BRACKETS (2 MAN, 3 MAN, 4 MAN) WILL BE WRESTLED OUT ON SATURDAY. THOSE ATHLETES' MAY RETURN ON SUNDAY TO PARTICIPATE IN GRAND MARCH IF DESIRED - KEEP YOUR BANDS ON FOR ENTRY.
 
ALL OTHER BRACKETS WILL WRESTLE TO TOP 8 OR AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE BEFORE END OF SESSION 2.
 
SUNDAY
  
Doors open at 7:30 AM - Grand March at 8:30 AM - Wrestling will begin at 9 AM
          ALL DIVISIONS
 
All matches will be wrestled using the numeric match system on TrackWrestling. Each weight class will be assigned a mat that they will wrestle for most of the day. Matches will move as mats open and will be announced.
 
Certified Officials and Trainers. Head gear not required. Mouthguards are required for braces.
 
Folkstyle tournament rules apply identically to AAU Kids State.
 
There will be “NO MINIMUM WAIT TIME”. A brief 1-2 match break will be given if the athlete is called onto a mat as they leave a match or while they are still wrestling.

AAU Super Pee Wee State information- K-2 grades

Super Pee Wee State 2025 – PreK through 2nd grades:

Super Pee Wee State this year is on March 8th-9th, 2025, at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa. 

This email has a lot of information but please also refer to their website for more specific information at https://www.superpeewee.com/. 

Just like each tournament, it is up to your family and your wrestler if they would like to participate at SPW State. You do not have to qualify for state at this level. You can just sign up and attend.

In order for us to know how many kids are planning to wrestle at Super Pee Wee state, please complete the below Google form by Sunday, February 9th. This is how we know who to include on the state t-shirts that you will be able to purchase. THIS IS NOT REGISTERING FOR THE EVENT.

You can register for the tournament at https://trackwrestling.com. Search for the tournament called Iowa AAU Super Peewee State Tournament. Super Pee Wee DIVISIONS
1. Kindergarten – If your 8th birthday is in 2025, you must move to the next age group.
2. 1st Grade – If your 9th birthday is in 2025, you must move to the next age group.
3. 2nd Grade – If your 10th birthday is in 2025, you are ineligible to wrestle in the Super Pee Wee State Wrestling Championship.

Wrestlers are allowed to enter only one division and one weight class. Boys must compete in the boys' divisions and girls must compete in the girls' divisions. You can move up one age group or one weight class with a parent’s consent. 
Grade in school is primary determinant of division. Your wrestler's age can move him/her a division up but not down.
Preschool wrestlers are able to compete and have the same documentation requirements.

Requirements for SPW State:
• Wrestler must have an AAU card.
• Must prove child's age and grade- You will be required to bring a copy of your wrestler's birth certificate AND proof of grade to weigh-ins. 
• Examples of proof of grade: class composite picture, letter on school letterhead, report card, school ID.
• Be sure that whichever of these items you submit as proof of grade has the following 4 items: date of the current school year, current grade, student's name, and name of school.
